So, you’ve got a favorite coffee cup. Oh, you have 3? Maybe you’ve got 10 and your husband just built you a special bookshelf tower for said coffee cups. (I just saw that on FB actually!) Seriously though, is there anything we use more that makes us smile like pulling out our favorite coffee mug for our morning cup of joe? I will track that bad boy down from the dishwasher if my mood dictates it.
The thing is though, there never really is just ONE favorite cup. And as humans are, we tend to collect things that speak to us and make us happy. And I’m here to tell you, (despite a really heavy lean into minimalism in most of my life) that (and I’m whispering here) …it’s perfectly OK. That silly mug you got years ago at the white elephant gift exchange and secretly love or your kid made you, the retro #LoveLocalRochester mug you scored at the sidewalk sale, or the brand new shiny iridescent pink faceted number you just used your #starbucks rewards points for… They all have a place in your life, depending on how you feel on any given day.
One of my favorite things to do when I host a Zoom meeting is to do a coffee cup shout out. Say hello, lift your mug to cheer the day and ask your fellow Zoomer’s to share their mug and why they love it. Aside from everyone enjoying their heart swells and laughs, it’s one of the great humble connectors of the world.
So go on and give your coffee mug cupboard a little #MarieKondo makeover. Take each one out, hold it over your heart and see if it brings you joy. If it doesn’t, box them up and give someone else an opportunity to fall in love with them. And if your big ol’ heart experiences that magic life affirming “heart swell”, lean in and drink up, no matter what is filling your coffee cup. And Mug it up for the camera while you’re at it and send your BFF a good morning selfie with your cup of joy.
#Mugitup! For the camera. For your team. For yourself.

Wendy Schwartz’s - Love my “heartswell “ moments having coffee with you at the lake! Can’t wait for more of those this summer. Let’s get ourselves some special mugs to mark those memories!
